Custom Jira Reporting? There’s a better way.

Jira Reporting Dashboard Gadgets:

The Pie Chart was popularised by Florence Nightingale in 1858, and the default pie charts in Jira beautifully capture the era. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, right guys?

Your boss wants to show his boss a RAG Status Pie Chart, summarising this sprint’s Jira tickets for what’s been done, what’s fucked, and what’s been put in amber because no one’s admitted it's fucked yet.

Most people don’t use Pie or Bar Charts in Jira Dashboards, because it shows every possible irrelevant status, and there’s no way of hiding the useless noise. Also, the colours are randomly different every time.

It’s pretty embarrassing having to explain to the CEO that Green means Red, that Purple means Amber, and that Yellow means Green (and worse still having to redecode the new randomised colours every week).

Jira Charts Could Be Prettier...

Some think Jira Charts Dashboards look beautiful. Some wish there was a Jira Plug-in for Charts

Custom Jira Reporting Dashboard Options:

1.) There are some super powerful data visualization tools. So powerful you'd need a PhD to use them or at least a background in coding and a lot of patience.

Don’t get me wrong, these tools are as impressive as this bulldozer and as heavyhanded as this metaphor. But simple charting in Jira, is more of a job for a screwdriver, amirite?

2.) Don’t Say Excel, Don’t Say Excel, oh please gods, don’t say Excel.

If you're looking to export Jira data to Excel, here's some advise. Don't!

Here’s the tragedy. Do you know how many companies invest in the best of breed real-time data visualization dashboards, only for half of the workforce to still upload an excel chart to a powerpoint?

To visualize the problem, we asked our team of Big Data, Machine Learning Solution Architects to summarise the overlap between the people that use Data Visualisation Tools, and the people that want to make a pie chart.

Big Data tools are great for Big Data Engineers. The rest of your team will end up making it in Paint if you don't give them an easier tool.

3.) Tools to Make Beautiful Jira Charts in Confluence or on Jira Dashboard Gadgets.

If you'd like a detailed and more sensible guide on how to make Jira Charts in Confluence, that link will take you there!

Why not just drag and drop segments in the order you want with a simple and easy to use tool?

Choose exactly the colours you want for your Jira Charts, because maybe you’re picky,

Or maybe you just want to make it pretty,

Or you’re under the tyranny of one of those godawful marketing rules where every memo written has to be on brand in accordance with the corporately approved colour palette.

Either way, no need for excel, keep your Jira reporting real time.

And no need for Big Data project dashboards either, let's keep it simple.

There's no need to buy before you try either, check out the Custom Jira Charts playground, and see how it works, now!
